All about me
Hello, I’m Debbie.
I live just outside of Hull, East Yorkshire in the UK. I had been a primary school teacher for over 10 years and, as much as I loved it, I felt a calling to something else. As I said, I absolutely loved being a teacher and I was so lucky to work in a great school, with wonderful colleagues and great families. Without my experience as a teacher, I would have never been able to leave that role and start my own business.
In the last few years I retrained to become a Clinical Hypnotherapist, a really rewarding, interesting and exciting career. Having almost finished a further, advanced diploma in clinical hypnotherapy, I am now to work with anyone dependent on alcohol, drug users (including heroin and other IV drugs), anyone experiencing symptoms associated with menopause and people who self-sabotage. I am training to be a crisis and trauma clinical hypnotherapist and will be able to offer sessions for anyone suffering from PTSD and CPTSD in the near future. This also includes anyone who experiences unexplained behaviour (self sabotage) and physical symptoms e.g. phantom pain including auto immune diseases such as fibromyalgia as well as significant anxiety with no known biological cause or trigger.
I am registered as a Clinical Hypnotherapist and accredited with the following boards, GHR, GHSC, Hypnotherapy Directory and insured with Balens.
Some other techniques I use include emotional freedom technique (EFT) which is also referred to as ‘tapping.’ I have had excellent results both personally and with clients. I am also a trained yoga and meditation teacher. I undertook YTT 200 in the area of Yoga Therapy which I absolutely loved. I used to teach yoga regularly although stopped during 2020 as a result of restrictions and I haven’t set up any classes since.
While I studied for an undergraduate BSc in psychology, I undertook a module on Hypnotherapy and the Placebo Effect. I absolutely loved learning about this. When I graduated, I wanted to be a hypnotherapist. My older sister came with me to the public library in Hull to seek advice on how to pursue this career. Believe it or not, this was well before this information was available on the internet. I was very quiet and shy. I didn’t know how I would find a training course and the thought of starting my own business was very frightening. I got a job in a jewellery store which I loved and after a few years undertook a PGCE with QTS to become a primary teacher.
That’s a bit of my professional history.
More personal stuff…
I live in a city called Hull on the east coast of England. I have a campervan. Currently I have a VW T6 and I absolutely love it. Prior to this, I had a Brazilian Bay reproduction. My advice – never buy one. They are cold, the engine is noisy and the main dealer in the UK is a company I do not miss having contact with. In the future, I hope to buy a VW Crafter and take longer trips and maybe even try van life. My little dog, Frodo, runs the house. He is getting on in years and after surgery a few years ago he really hates the vet but he does loves his camping trips. He has his own section in my monthly newsletter so if you fancy following Frodo the Hypnodog, be sure to sign up!
I love hiking and mountain climbing. I’ve climbed Ben Nevis twice and hope to one day make it to Everest Base Camp although I would need to take training for such an event a lot more seriously than simply hiking in the UK.
Generally I am quite laid back and not easily offended. I don’t take life too seriously. I always take the view that there are things which are worth getting upset about and things which absolutely deserve attention but it is less often than we think.
My main hobby and something I absolutely love is listening to music. You will regularly find me at festivals and concerts, mainly for rock and emo bands although I listen to a wide variety of genres.
I hope to share valuable information for you in my blog in a less formal manner than I approach some social media channels. Expect sarcasm and light hearted humour. I will try my best to convey this in a blog however this is relatively new to me.
